1 · Your HEIC photos

Add your .heic or .heif photos: they stay on your device.

2 · Convert to

JPG is almost always the right choice and opens anywhere. PNG loses no quality but is much heavier. WebP is lighter than JPG, but some older programs can't open it.

Size (long side)

This data keeps your photos sorted by date. It can also contain where the photo was taken: to remove that use “Remove location and hidden data from photos”.

The first photo is a little slower: the browser has to download the HEIC reader first (1.5 MB), then it stays in memory.

Why iPhone photos won't open

Since 2017 the iPhone has saved photos as HEIC, a format that takes about half the space of a JPG at the same quality. The problem comes when you send them to someone else: Windows, Android and many programs and websites can't open it and just show a grey icon.

Here the photos are converted to JPG by your browser, without sending them to any server and without installing anything. You can convert up to a hundred at once and download them in a ZIP file.

To avoid the problem in the first place, on your iPhone open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose “Most Compatible”: from then on new photos will be JPG.

How to use it

iPhone photos are saved as HEIC: they take little space, but they won't open on Windows, on Android or on many websites. Here you convert them to JPG (or PNG and WebP) without installing anything and without sending them to any server: the conversion happens inside your browser. You can choose the quality, make them smaller and decide whether to keep the date they were taken, so they stay in order.

  1. Choose your .heic photos: they stay on your device.
  2. Choose the format, the quality and whether to keep the shooting date.
  3. Press “Convert all” and download them one by one or all together in the ZIP.

FAQ

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The photos are read and converted by your browser. Nothing leaves your device: it even works offline once the page is open.

Why is the first photo slower?

The browser has to download the HEIC reader once (about 1.5 MB). From the second photo on, conversion is quick.

Is the photo's date lost?

No, as long as you leave “Keep the date, camera and shooting settings” on: the date stays and your photos stay in order. Careful: that data can also contain where the photo was taken. To remove it use “Remove location and hidden data from photos”.

Does the quality get worse?

JPG does compress, so a little, but at 90% quality you can't see the difference. If you don't want to lose anything choose PNG, which is far heavier.

How do I stop getting HEIC photos?

On your iPhone open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose “Most Compatible”: new photos will be JPG. The old ones stay HEIC and you can convert them here.
